Early 20th century owner listed as Gentner, acquired in Florence. This may be Philip J. Gentner, first director of the Worcester Art Museum. After leaving this post in 1917, Gentner returned to Florence where he had spent several years prior to taking the position in Worcester, apparently buying for Boston collectors (information from the Kress Foundation).
